Nine students of Delhi University were allegedly injured in a clash with police when they were marching to the Vice Chancellors' office to press their demands.

Scores of students on Friday gathered at DU's Art Faculty for the DU Bachao Rally organised by Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU). The students were demanding better hostel facilities, special buses for them, special chance provision and the opening of new colleges, among others.

"Three office bearers of DUSU, including its president, vice president and joint secretary and six other students were injured in a lathicharge by police. They (police) used water cannon too," claimed Rohit Chahal, National Secratary of ABVP, which leads DUSU.

Police, however, denied resorting to a lathicharge.

"There were around 700-800 students and they were marching to the Vice Chancellor's office. We had to use water cannon to disperse them," a senior police official said.
"There was no lathicharge and none of the students were detained," he added.
