A 30-year-old man was allegedly shot dead in southwest Delhi’s Chhawla area, where he used to run a photography shop, during the early hours on Sunday. The police said the victim had left his home late on Saturday night with a friend, after which he did not return. They suspect it to be a case of personal enmity. No arrests were made till late on Sunday evening.

The deceased was identified as Dalchand, a resident of New Roshan Pura in Najafgarh. A passerby spotted his body lying in a pool of blood on the roadside. He immediately alerted the locals, who reported the matter to the police.

“Prima facie, it appears the victim was shot. The family members have been informed and the body has been sent for post-mortem. A case of murder has been registered at the Chhawla police station,” DCP (southwest) Surender Kumar said.

Dalchand’s family told the police that he had left home late on Saturday night with one of his friends, whom they did not recognise. “When he did not return by next day and did not respond to their phone calls, the panicked family members approached the police. A missing complaint was registered and a police team was formed to look for him. The body was recovered barely 2 km away from his home,” a senior officer said.

Dalchand is survived by his wife and two children. Police said the CCTV footage from the area is being scanned for clues.

“The motive behind the murder is not clear yet. Personal enmity is suspected since he left home with an acquaintance. The case is being probed from all possible angles. We are questioning the family and friends of the deceased,” the DCP said.
