25-year-old stabbed to death by friend in Delhi's Kashmere Gate area

According to the police, the victim has been identified as Sharad, a nephew of a Delhi Police personnel

A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his friend in an inebriated state following a scuffle over a petty issue in Kashmere Gate area of North Delhi on Sunday night. Police said that they have arrested the accused.

According to the police, the victim has been identified as Sharad, a nephew of a Delhi Police personnel, who was allegedly stabbed by his friend identified as Harish, a resident of Kashmere Gate police staff quarters.

"A police control room call was received at around 11 pm from the brother-in-law of the victim informing about the incident. A team was rushed to the spot. The deceased was taken to the nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad.

During the investigation, it came to light that the deceased along with four friends including the accuse was returning after dinner and drinks from Ashok Vihar.

"The friends revealed that after having dinner and drinks, they were on their way to Kashmere Gate when Harish and Sharad got into a verbal spat and abused each other without any particular reason. The deceased kept abusing Harish even after he asked him to stop and after some time Harish started doing the same," said Prasad.

The friends further revealed that as they reached near a park behind old Hindu College and stopped to fill petrol, the argument turned violent and they had to intervene.

"Harish allegedly went to an eatery, picked up a knife and attacked Sharad in the neck before fleeing. The friends rushed him to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered and with the help of technical and human surveillance, Harish was arrested within hours from Burari," said a senior police officer.

Police said that Harish worked in a private company while Sharad was unemployed.
