According to the police, the accused has been identified as Monu (22), a labourer by profession, who was arrested by the locals for trying to lure the girl with the intentions to abduct her.
A 22-year-man was arrested for allegedly trying to molest a 7-year-old girl in Jewar area of Greater Noida on Sunday morning.
Locals caught hold of the accused and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The accused was sent to jail under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Monu (22), a labourer by profession, who was arrested by the locals for trying to lure the girl with the intentions to abduct her.
"The incident took place at around 9:30 am when Monu was walking by a banquet hall in the village and he approached a girl standing outside her house. The accused lured her on the pretext of giving her candies and caught hold of her hand," said Ram Sen Singh, Station House Officer (Jewar).
Locals gathered on the spot when the victim raised an alarm. Monu tried to flee the spot but was nabbed by the locals and thrashed. Later, a police call was made to the police.
"Monu was handed over to the police and on the basis of the complaint filed by the victim's family, he was booked under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012 and was sent to jail," said Singh.
The police said Monu hails from Aligarh and was working as a labourer in Jewar for the past 3 years.
