A 22-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her home in Parthala Khanjarpur village of Phase-3 in Noida on Sunday evening.

The woman has been identified as Arpita Tiwari, a final year commerce student who hails from Gonda in Uttar Pradesh. The deceased had come to visit her father during her vacations a week ago. Her father had gone out for work and Arpita was alone at home.

According to the police, the father returned around 8 pm and found his daughter hanging with the fan. She had used a duppata to strangulate. During investigations, Arpita's father also told police that he found her chatting with a friend on Facebook on Saturday and was asked to refrain herself from the friendship.

"The body has been sent for postmortem. Preliminary investigations suggest it was a suicide," said Arun Kumar Singh, Superintendent of police (city).
