Gangs of thieves have now started targeting high-end hotels in the Capital. On Sunday, two women dressed in finery allegedly fled with a bag of jewellery and valuables from a wedding at a five-star hotel in the Lutyens’ Delhi. Police said the women were captured entering the ballroom on CCTV cameras installed in the hotel.
Police received a complaint from the host, who had organised the wedding ceremony for his daughter at Shangri-La’s Eros Hotel. The complainant’s wife came to know about the theft around 11:30 pm, when she realised that the valuables were missing from her bag.
“She told the police that she had the bag, but a gold chain, a diamond ring set in gold, an i-Phone 6 and 20-25 pieces of silver coins were missing. Hotel security was immediately alerted, who identified two suspicious women exiting the ballroom with a bag. After the security failed to trace the suspects, the complainants approached the police,” a senior police officer said.
Cops are now probing whether it was the handiwork of the same gang that had decamped with jewellery, Rs 7 lakh in cash, and phone of a judicial officer in the Juvenile Justice Board from his nephew’s wedding in the Civil Lines area in December.
Last month, the police had claimed to have busted a gang of thieves that targeted wedding venues with the help of juvenile assistants, whom they employed as bonded labourers.
