Shami's wife Hasin Jahan has accused the cricketer domestic violence and extra-marital affairs, among several other things.
National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma on Friday said she will be willing to look into the case of Hasin Jahan, wife of cricketer Mohammed Shami.
An FIR against Shami has been lodged in Kolkata's Jadavpur police station after Jahan lodged a written complaint. Jahan has accused the premier Indian fast-bowler of domestic violence and extra-marital affairs, among several other things.
"Mohammed Shami's wife has not approached us as yet, if she comes we will surely look into her case," NCW chief Rekha Sharma was quoted as saying by ANI on Friday
The FIR has been registered against Shami and his four other family members under several Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections, including section 498A, which amounts to cruelty to a woman by her husband or his relatives.
The other charges recorded against Shami are under Section 307 - attempt to murder, Section 323 - punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 376 - rape, Section 506 - criminal intimidation, Section 328 and Section 34.
Jahan had alleged that Shami abused her physically and mentally and was also involved in several extra-marital affairs.
Shami, on his part, has denied all allegations levied by his wife and termed them 'baseless'. Brushing off the allegations, Shami said that someone is conspiring against him to ruin his career.
"All allegations are baseless, it does not have any meaning. Cannot say anything about the case till the time I get to know everything. There is some conspiracy behind this, it may be a conspiracy to spoil my game," he said.
"I tried to contact Hasin but she did not pick up my phone but will meet her soon. The way I am, will stay with her like that forever. I contacted my father in law, he spoke to me very nicely and I think the things will sort out soon," he added.
Mohammad Shami and Hasin Jahan got married in 2014.
