Former Sri Lankan cricketer Russel Arnold defended Sri Lanka players for covering their faces with anti-pollution masks in the third and final Test match at Delhi.

Several Sri Lankan players wore anti-pollution masks during the second session of the play and the session saw three interruptions over complaints of air pollution at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground.

However, when India declared the innings after the third intteruption, Sri Lanka's opners walked out to bat without any masks. That prompted some fans to question the Sri Lankan players.

Even, Sanjay Manjrekar during commentary made an observation and said that Sri Lankan player Angelo Mathews who needed mask while fielding has come out to bat without a mask. A fan of the Indian team tweeted Manjrekar’s statement and asked Russel Arnold to reply.

He wrote: “Awesome observation by @sanjaymanjrekar. Player (@Angelo69Mathews) who needed mask while fielding has come out to bat without a mask. #IndvSL @RusselArnold69 any comments? @bhogleharsha request you to ask him the q’n again.”

Russel Arnold replied back with a quip of his own, “Didn’t see any of the Indian batsmen wear sunnies when batting.. they wear them while fielding … same Sun na.”

Arnold’s tweet, of course, didn’t go down well with Indian cricket fans.
