Trying to recapture past glory? Australia to wear retro ODI kits against India

After losing the Test series 1-2 against visitors India, Australia are all geared up for the fifty-over format which will begin from 12 January.

 Australia will be kick-starting the tournament in a new style as they will wear the retro kit used in the 1980s.

According to Cricket Australia’s official website, the team will wear the same kit which was used during their corresponding 1986 series against India.

Peter Siddle who is making a comeback to the ODI side after almost eight years said is pretty excited to feature in the game.

“It’s pretty awesome actually. We found out the other day we were going to be in it, so the boys were a bit excited to get their pack and open up and check it out. Everyone is very impressed,” he said.

The green and gold kit:

The kit was worn for ODIs back in the 1980s and the jersey – green and gold in colour – has evolved over the years.

By donning these jerseys, Cricket Australia in a way, are paying tribute to the legendary cricketers.

Siddle is also said to be wearing an extra accessory and bring the old look back if he gets a chance to feature in any game.

“I might just pull out the headband. I’ll have to ask Zamps (Adam Zampa) to borrow one of his and go with the DK (Lillee) headband. We’ll see what we pull out on Saturday,” the fast bowler added.
