Indian Women's T20 skipper Harmanpreet Kaur took her position on the platform next to the CCI dressing room in front of portraits of India's Test captains hanging on the wall for the customary pre-match press briefing on Wednesday.

Though the Indian women don't play Test matches, Harmanpreet could still feel at home in front of the illustrious names that have defined Indian cricket, for her captaincy record in T20s.

She is the most successful Indian women's captain, leading the country to 12 wins off 18 games at the helm. Mithali Raj, who has led India in T20s the most (32 matches, 17 wins, 15 losses), Jhulan Goswami (18, 8, 10) and Anjum Chopra (10, 3, 7) are the others who have led India in T20Is.

Harmanpreet has settled into the role of a captain and is not letting the pressures of leading the side affect her individual performance. "I have always enjoyed whenever I am given the responsibility of leading the side. It has been one of my dreams," said Harmanpreet.

The owner of India's highest individual score in T20 said that fielding was an area the team needed to improve upon.

"In T20 format, there are a lot of areas where we need to improve and big thing where we are lacking is fielding. If you saw the ODI series, we have given a lot of runs because of fielding. In T20 format, it is a short format where we can give our 100 per cent and girls are looking confident and hopefully we will do better"

Only one of the three Indian cricketers – men or women – with the experience of playing in a foreign T20 league, the Women's Big Bash in 2016-17, Harmanpreet said Australia and England had the edge of her team in terms of familiarity with the format.

"No doubt England and Australia players have lot of experience as they have played a lot of T20 format. Right now, for us as a team, it is a learning process and preparing for the World Cup (in West Indies in November 2018) and day by day we are taking the challenges. Anything we learn takes time (for results). We will try and give our best. We will like to give them a fight," said the 29-year-old from Punjab.
