Rohit Sharma's century powers India to T20 series win against Sri Lanka

Indian captain Rohit Sharma notched up a century off just 35 balls besides also sharing a huge partnership of 161 runs with KL Rahul.

India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match T20 series as thet beat Sri Lanka in the second T20I at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Friday. India won the match by 88 runs as Sri Lanka could reach just 172 in their chase of a mammoth 261 run targets set by India. 

Indian captain Rohit Sharma notched up a century off just 35 balls besides also sharing a huge partnership of 161 runs with KL Rahul (89) for the opening wicket to guide the hosts to 260 for 5 in their 20 overs. 

Sri Lanka lost Nirosham Dickwell early but they were kept in the fight by Upul Tharanga and Kusal Perera. The duo added 109 off just 53 balls to give the visitors some hope. But after Tharanga departed for 47 off 29 balls, the innings crumbled. From 145/1, The visitors were reduced to 172/9 soon. Angelo Mathews didn't bat due to an injury during the first innings. Kusal Perera top scored wiith 77 off 37 balls. 

Earlier, Rohit Sharma hit his second T20 century scoring 118 runs, which included 10 sixes, at an astonishing batting strike-rate of 274.42. 

Meanwhile, the stand-in skipper has also entered the record books as he became the joint-fastest centurion, equaling South African David Miller?s record in T20I. He also became the first Indian cricketer to hit two centuries in the shortest format of the game.

Besides Rohit and KL Rahul, wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni also smashed two boundaries and two sixes before falling cheaply for 28.

India eventually posted a score of 261-5, thus crossing their previous highest T20I score of 244-4.

At the time of filing of this report, Lanka have started their innings and have reached 62-1, with Upul Tharanga (20) and Kusal Perera (15) batting at the crease.

India are currently leading the three-match T20I series against Lanka 1-0 following a massive win by 93 runs in the first match in Cuttack. I
