IPL 2019 Auction: 1003 players Sign Up for Indian Premier League auction this year

The list includes players from North-East, Bihar, Uttarakhand and Puducherry for the first time.

Indian Premier League player registration for the 12 edition of the league closed on Tuesday with 1003 players signing up to be a part of IPL 2019 auction. The list included 232 overseas cricketers. The auction is set to take place on December 18, 2018 in Jaipur.

While there are only 70 spots to fill - 200 capped players, 800 uncapped players and three players from Associate Nations have made themselves available. 

Of the 800 uncapped players, 746 are Indians.

For the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League, cricketers from nine states – Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Puducherry – have registered and will hope to showcase their talent in the world’s biggest T20 tournament.

As many as 232 of those are overseas players. South Africa have the maximum number of entrants, with 59 players signing up while Australia (35), Windies (33), Sri Lanka (28) and Afghanistan (27) formed a sizeable portion of the list as well. Apart from these, one player each from USA, Hong Kong, Ireland, Netherlands have signed up.

Franchises will now have time until 5:00 pm IST on Monday, December 10 to submit their shortlist of players that will make up the final list.

As the tournament prepares to enter its 12th edition, Hugh Edmeades, an independent fine art, classic car and charity auctioneer will be the new gavel master. With over 30 years of experience at Christie’s, Edmeades will engage the bidders from eight franchises in his inimitable style.
