Pune will serve as Chennai Super Kings’s new home for their remaining six IPL-11 matches. The decision was taken late on Wednesday after a meeting between team’s CEO Kasi Vishwanathan and Chennai city police commissioner.

Matches are being shifted as the CSK’s first match at home, against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), was marred by protests over Cauvery water issue.

Though most of the CSK players expressed disappointment over the decision, their captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming are familiar with the Pune ground as the both were part of Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017.

Rajkot, Vishakapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram were the other cities in consideration for CSK’s remaining games.

Chennai hosted KKR on April 10 (Tuesday), marking its return to IPL fold after completing two-year ban for spot-fixing charges. The match was marred by several protests inside and outside stadium forcing the organisers to contemplate shifting of matches.

“Very sad for our team @ChennaiIPL and the fans here in Chennai that we won’t be playing any more games here this season. The atmosphere last game was incredible. Let’s hope this situation in Tamil Nadu is sorted out asap,” was how former Australian cricketer Shane Watson tweeted after the news.

“Will miss playing on our home ground and entertaining our #Chennai fans this season...You are always in our hearts. On to #Pune now! #IPL2018,” Suresh Raina also tweeted on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Delhi Daredevils games at home also face an uncertain future after Delhi High Court did not permit the official broadcaster to telecast the IPL games out of Old Club House end.

An urgent meeting was called where IPL officials and event mangers IMG along with the Daredevils’ CEO Hemant Dua and Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) met at the Kotla premises and admitted that “doing a live telecast away from the bowlers’ arm would be massive compromise”.

With HC’s next hearing slated for April 18, it was decided to move a plea in the Court on Friday itself to seek an urgent review of the decision.

In case of no respite from the HC, Delhi matches could well be moved to either Kanpur, Rajkot, Indore or Raipur.

DNA has reliably learnt that BCCI has given a Friday deadline for DDCA to sort out the matter. DDCA is hoping that with Justice (retd) Vikramjit Sen at the helm of affairs, it may get a reprieve from the Court.
