The India-South Africa Test series has been a comeback for R Ashwin. Ashwin had been bogged down by injury concerns on important overseas tours.

Ashwin had to wait longer to return to the senior national team, having spent his time in West Indies warming the benches.

Ashwin - who was keen on proving a point - has already taken two major wickets on Day 2 of the Test series.

However, the spinner needs 6 more wickets in Test to be the joint-fastest to reach 350 Test wickets.

He would join legendary Muttiah Muralitharan's record. The Lankan spin great took 66 matches to scalp 350 Test wickets.

Earlier in November 2017, Ashwin had become the fastest bowler to reach the milestone of 300 Test wickets. He broke Australia's Dennis Lillee's record by achieving the feat in just 54 matches.

As for the match against the Proteas, Ashwin provided the first breakthrough to India as he castled the stumps of Aiden Markram (5).

The Proteas lost their second wicket with just 31 runs on the board as Ashwin got Theunis de Bruyn (4) stumped at the hands of wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha.
