In the era of DRS, many cricketers leave it to the technology to give the verdict and put their own instinct or honesty on the backfoot.
However, on Day 3 of the fourth and final Test between India and Australia in Sydney, KL Rahul showed true sportsmanship as he signalled not out when he dove and took a catch.
Ravindra Jadeja was introduced in the 15th over on Saturday and on his very first ball, he created a chance of a catch. Aussie opener Marcus Harris showed intent as he went down the pitch and smashed the ball towards mid-on.
Unfortunately, he mistimed it and the ball flew straight to Rahul, who dove across and for once it looked like he took the catch successfully.
However, the Indian fielder immediately signalled that it didn't carry and Harris was not out.
While Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah ran to Rahul to pat on his back, the on-field umpire Ian Gould is impressed as he acknowledges Rahul's gesture saying, "Outstanding mate. Well done!"
Watch Rahul's display of 'elite honesty' here:
A good effort from Rahul and he immediately says it bounced. Great stuff. Umpire Gould a big fan of it #CloseMatters#AUSvIND | @GilletteAU pic.twitter.com/7nA0H5Lsc7

Rahul has been under-fire throughout this series for his repeated failures with the bat but with this beautiful gesture, he has certainly won hearts of the Indian fans once again.
Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter:

Some cricketers have decided that there’s no need for honesty in the era of DRS. Just let technology decide and hope it goes your way. So it’s nice to see this from KL Rahul. https://t.co/iYZxdcVzgg

Great sportsmanship from KL Rahul, can hate on the Indians all you want but they play cricket the right way, starting at the top with Kohli, not to mention they're good at the game they play too. Also note the treatment of Jane McGrath day.

Fantastic to see true sportsmanship from KL Rahul, quickly signifying his dropped catch. Love it if all played in this spirit. #AusvsIndia #7Cricket

Good stuff from KL Rahul to ensure that the umpires don't waste time going to the third umpire #AUSvIND

Later in the day, it was spinner Kuldeep Yadav who made the breakthrough for India as he dismissed Usman Khawaja in the 22nd over. Khawaja tried to take on Kuldeep but a mistimed shot went straight to Cheteshwar Pujara at mid-wicket.
