Coming on the back of a comfortable five-match ODI series win, India aimed to extend their dominance over Australia when the two sides headed into the opening T20I of the three-match series in Ranchi on Saturday.

And the Virat Kohli-led side did exactly that, cruising to a nine-wicket victory in a rain-affected game.

David Warner's Australia were reduced to 118/8 after 18.4 overs when rain took over in Ranchi. After a two-hour break, India were set a target of 48 from 6 overs (DLS) which they achieved comfortably.

Kuldeep Yadav, for his brilliant spell of 2 for 16 off his 4 overs, was rightly declared the Man of the Match.

Here are highlights of the first T20

INDIA WIN!

Kohli finishes it in style with a lofted drive through covers for four.

Dhawan is looking in fine form!

Plays a pull/flick to Coulter-Nile for four.

India are cruising, they need 12 from 12 balls.

'22:29

Kohli walks out this time and plays nothing more than a slight push over the bowler's head for four.

Andrew Tye drops it short a couple of balls later, Dhawan plays an easy pull for a bounddary.

It's looking all too easy for India now, they need 21 from 18.

'22:25

Dhawan walks out and smacks it past the bowler for four to end the over.

India are 16/1 after 2 overs.

The run-rate is in control, just need to not lose wickets and cause undue panic.

'22:21

SIX!

What a shot from Rohit Sharma! Simply flicks the ball into the stands.

OUT!

Nathan Coulter-Nile knocks over Rohit's middle stump on the very next ball!

Big blow for the Indians as their man in form walks back.

Skipper Virat Kohli is the new man at the crease.

'22:19

Rohit flicks the first ball for four!

Classy start to the Indian innings, they need to go at 8-an-over.

The debutant makes a good comeback, beating the bat on a couple of occasions.

With ten wickets in hand, the hosts are the firm favourites.

Five runs came from that first over.

'22:15

We're all set for the first ball of the Indian innings.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have walked out for India, with the former taking strike.

Debutant Jason Behrendorff has the new ball for Australia.

Here we go!

'22:07

After a two hour delay, the covers are finally off and the match is about to begin!

The revised target for India is 48 off 6 overs (DLS).

'20:20

Bad news from here in Ranchi, the players are going off due to rain.

Australia are 118/8 after 18.4 overs.

Stay tuned for further updates, the rain isn't very hard at the moment.

'20:17

OUT!

What a run-out by Virat Kohli!

Dan Christian hits the ball to long-on and tries to take two.

Kohli pounces on the ball and hits the stumps on the striker's end, all the way from the long-on boundary. Wow!

'20:13

OUT!

Sensational stuff from Bumrah. Destroys Nathan Coulter-Nile's stumps with an unplayable yorker.

AUS - 113/7 after 17.4 overs.

'20:11

OUT!

Bumrah bowls a skidder, Paine's stumps get rattled.

The Aussie keeper's luck finally runs out.

'20:09

Finally some respite for Australia!

Paine drives Bhuvi through covers for four. Follows that up with a pull for six.

The visitors need a few more of these in the final few overs to be competitive tonight.

AUS - 111/5 after 17 overs.

'20:02

What is happening here!

Dhoni misses out on a stumping, and a couple of balls later Bhuvi drops a sitter.

Chahal could have had Tim Paine twice in that over. There's that wry smile again from the leggie.

He got lucky when he got Maxwell out earlier. Law of averages caught up with his there!

AUS - 95/5 after 15 overs.

'19:57

OUT!

Head knocked over by Pandya!

The left-hander has had a poor tour, walks back for 9 off 16 tonight.

The Aussie innings is falling apart here!

AUS - 89/5 after 13.3 overs.

'19:51

OUT!

Henriques tries to step out and send the ball into orbit, but misses the it completely and gets clean-bowled.

Kuldeep picks up another wicket. Wonderful bowling by the Indian spinners so far.

AUS - 87/4 after 12.2 overs.

'19:50

Welcome boundary for Australia!

Pandya, as he does on most occasions, pitches it short. Henriques plays a solid pull for four.

AUS - 86/3 after 12 overs.

'19:45

Top over from Chahal, just three singles came from it.

Meanwhile, Moises Henriques has joined Travis Head at the crease.

'19:42

OUT!

Finch clean-bowled by Kuldeep!

This is absolutely brilliant stuff from the young chinaman bowler.

Finch was consistently playing sweep shots. Kuldeep fires one full, the Aussie thinks of playing a sweep again but gets caught in two minds. The ball goes through his legs and crashes into the stumps.

This is a huge blow for the Aussies!

AUS - 77/3 after 10 overs.

'19:38

First six of the night!

Chahal tosses it up, Finch slogs it over the fence.

The right-handed opener is the big danger man for India without a doubt.

Good comeback from Chahal, though. Gives away just four more singles.

AUS - 72/2 after 9 overs.

'19:34

Kuldeep Yadav bowls his first over. Gives away just 5 runs to start his spell.

AUS - 62/2 after 8 overs

Chahal has a wry smile on his face as Maxwell's ordeal comes to an end.

AUS - 55/2 after 6.3 overs.

'19:25

Pandya is another man struggling at the moment.

Bowls a rank over-pitched delivery to Finch, gets clobbered down the ground for four.

Looks even-stevens at the end of the Power Play.

AUS - 49/1 after 6 overs.

'19:21

Change of ends for Bumrah too.

Maxwell is struggling big-time at the moment. He has made 5 from 10.

Finch will need to do the bulk of the scoring, he's timing the ball beautifully.

AUS - 36/1 after 5 overs.

'19:16

Change of ends for Bhuvi. Gives away just three runs. Outstanding stuff!

'19:12

Finch survives a close call!

Tries to loft it straight back on the rise, the ball just about crosses Bhuvi at mid-on.

Plays a similar shot a couple of balls later and picks up a boundary, only this time the ball went over covers. Follows that up with a cut past point that finds the fence.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya bowls out his first over. An expensive one at that.

One over spells are the way to go in T20 cricket these days!

AUS - 25/1 after 3 overs.

'19:08

Poor delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, short and wide.

Finch throws his bat at it and picks up four easy runs.

All eyes on Maxwell, though. He was dropped in the ODI series after a string of poor performances.

We all know what he can do if he gets going. Will he fire tonight?

AUS 15/1 after 2 overs.

'19:04

Warner gets off the mark with a ferocious cut for four.

Follows that up with a dab between point and short-third for four.

OUT!

What a comeback by Bhuvi! Warner tries to play another square-cut, but only manages to chop it on to his stumps.

It's all happening in the first over!

Big blow for the Aussies as their captain walks back. Glenn Maxwell is the new man at the crease.

AUS - 8/1 after 1 overs.
