Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar backed out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane to overcome his bad patch. Rahane's poor form stretched even further to leave him with just seven runs from four innings of three Tests of the series so far.

"He would be disappointed in the manner he got out. He is somebody who works hard on his game like all players do. May be last match and this match, he erred in shot selection," said Bangar after the end of the day's play.

"I think that would be hurting him definitely but he is a quality player, and going forward, even his overseas record has been phenomenal, yeah he would be disappointed. He is a quality player and has the ability to bounce back quickly," said the coach.

Rahane had successful knocks of 57 and 132 under his belt while batting on Lankan soil recently, but his poor run in current series has raised serious concerns in dressing room before the tough South Africa tour. "He will be hurting with the kind of dismissals he has had, but he is too good a player to not making runs for long time," added Bangar.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's fast bowling coach Rumesh Ratnayake felt that situation would have been a lot different had chinaman Lakshan Sandakan, who got back-to-back wickets of Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane, been used much earlier on Saturday.

"He (Herath) is our leading wicket-taker and we do miss him a lot. We had to bring Sandakan in because of the fact that he is next in line and we saw a glimpse of what he can do at the end. I wish it had come two sessions earlier," was how Ratnayake described young prodigy of Lanka.

This despite the fact that Sandakan was proved the most expensive bowler of the visitors, conceding 110 runs in his 23 overs.

"Sandakan should have been bringing the googly much earlier and that's one of the things we spoke at Tea, and which he did only at the end. So we are asking why he didn't bring it on more. It might be a confidence issue but we will certainly discuss," said the yesteryear's speedster, adding: "He is comfortable with his normal chinaman but the googly is the thing that we see might trouble the batsmen, which he hides very well and not very easy to read. He should bring it on and mix it."
