When one says Virat Kohli, numerous records and milestones come to mind. Its, however, very rare when the Indian skipper has had a bad day on-field and what’s rarer is that he has a bad series.

While the T20I went all the way in India's favour, the ODIs saw a different story. Despite being Kohli's best format, the batsman couldn’t lit up India's hopes with his blade. His stunning numbers have also taken a dip.

Kohli could manage to score just 75 runs in three innings against the Kiwis (51, 15 and 9) and his average reads 25. This is the lowest series average that Kohli has recorded in the last five years.

The last time Kohli had a low average, it was against Bangladesh in 2015.

Kohli’s bad form has even costed India to lose the ODI series against New Zealand. He did hit a half-century in the first ODI, but the difference was created by Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul who took India closer to the 350-run mark.

In the second, Kohli failed with the bat in Auckland as India lost by 22 runs. This was also the Men in Blue's first series against New Zealand since 2014.

Now, in the third, being out for 9, Kohli will be hoping the efforts put in by Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Manish Pandey are paid off.
