Wasim Jaffer being class-personified while batting is no secret. As it turns out, he's quite classy off the field too.

The 39-year-old helped Vidarbha to a sensational maiden Ranji Trophy triumph recently. In the final, he played a crucial knock to help his team cross Delhi's first-innings total and go on to win the match. Not just that, the veteran has revealed that he did all this without charging Vidarbha Cricket Association a fee.

“I had a contract with them last season (2016-17) where I was to be paid in three instalments -- October, January and March. They wanted me to play a big part in their Ranji Trophy campaign. It didn’t happen due to injury but they never hesitated to pay me," Jaffer was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“In October, I was unavailable due to injury so they didn’t pay, which was fair. But in January, I was fit to play but they didn’t use my services (for limited-overs tournaments) but they respected my contract and paid me the full amount. I wanted to return the favour and called them (to say) I would play for free this season. It worked out well for both sides."

The former India player, who has two Test double-hundreds to his name, is playing as a professional player for Vidarbha. After winning the Ranji Trophy eight times with his home state Mumbai, this was the veteran's ninth title.

Former India opener and Jaffer's opponent in the Ranji final, Gautam Gambhir, applauded the stylish right-handed batsman for his big gesture. "Proud of u Wasim Jaffer on keeping money on the back foot. In times when greed, sly and ‘bottom line’ are being identified wid Indian cricketers,u have proven to be a shinning light, a real role model. Wish @bcci makes a mention of this @BCCIdomestic," Gambhir wrote on Twitter.

Well, Gambhir couldn't have said it better. They don't make men like Wasim Jaffer anymore.
