Just a month after his exit as general manager cricket operations from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), former Hyderabad captain Dr MV Sridhar died of a heart attack at his residence in Hyderabad on Monday.

Before joining BCCI in 2013, Sridhar was known for his triple century (366) against Andhra Pradesh in 1994. He was only the third batsman from Hyderabad, after VVS Laxman and Abdul Azeem, to score a triple century in domestic cricket. He scored 21 first-class centuries in his 11-year long career between 1988-89 and 1999-2000.

Sridhar's 366 has also been third-highest individual score in the Ranji Trophy, behind Bhausaheb Nimbalkar's unbeaten 443 and Sanjay Manjrekar's 377. A qualified doctor, Sridhar went on to serve Hyderabad Cricket Association as secretary.

His tenure came under lens for alleged irregularities of Rs 4 crore in HCA and he along with former president Arshad Ayub and G. Vinod was made co-accused by the anti corruption bureau of Telangana. This led to calls for his removal from the BCCI.

He joined during the N Srinivasan's tenure in BCCI and initially was given charge of domestic cricket. He came to the forefront only after Srinivasan was removed by the Supreme Court during the IPL spot-fixing case. Sridhar played prominent role in BCCI's various committees but his most challenging assignment was as the tournament director of the World T20 2016 held in India.

Sridhar's big assignment, which made him popular face amongst cricket fans in India, was the controversial "monkeygate" tour of Australia in 2007-08. Being media manager, Sridhar was praised for the manner in which he handled tough situations. BCCI had threatened to boycott the tour following Harbhajan Singh's ban after being found guilty of making a racist comments against Andrew Symonds.

Though Sridhar showed calm and composure during his stint as a player and an administrator, the HCA corruption charges put him under tremendous pressure following his exit from BCCI.

The 51-year-old is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son.
