What will be Virat Kohli's role in selecting the new coach of the Indian cricket team? With his 'reservations' being enough to drive out a stalwart like Anil Kumble out of coach's job, one would imagine that the talismanic batsman's word will be the deciding factor this time around too.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, however, revealed on Tuesday that Kohli will merely be 'consulted', while the final decision will be taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Dada, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.

"Kohli is the captain of the team, and we respect his decision. He will be consulted but no, he will not be the main person. In fact, he himself doesn't want to be the main person," said Ganguly on the sidelines of a promotional event in Mumbai.

Reports in the media on Tuesday morning suggested that the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai had asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to announce the name of the new coach by Tuesday itself. When questioned about this, Ganguly was prompt in saying that he hadn't read Rai's statement. "He has the right to ask, We will speak to him. Everyone is on board with our plan of action and has given their permissions."

Dada also revealed the reason for the delay. "We have held back because Virat is on a holiday in America, and you wouldn't want to disturb him when he's on a much-deserved break. We will speak to him on the phone if he is available. We will make the announcement very soon, though."

On Monday, Ganguly had stated that Kohli will 'need to understand how coaches operate'. When asked if this was a message the CAC was trying to send across to the skipper, Dada chose to tone things down. "No, it wasn't a message. It was simply said to bring him in confidence. He is a terrific player. You have to respect the captain of India and I respect him immensely."
