Dale Steyn is one of the best pacers the game of cricket has seen.

In a career where he spent a long time as the No.1 ranked bowler in the world, he picked up 419 wickets in 86 Test matches at an average of 22.32. He has played with and against some of the finest Test cricketers of all time.

Steyn was recently asked to choose the best test cricket dream XI of his time.

Steyn was tasked by Sky Sports to pick the team ahead of the Royal London One-Day Cup final where he was playing for Hampshire against Kent.

While Steyn didn't give himself a spot in the XI, the team does fature four South Africans -  Graeme Smith,  Hashim Amla, Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers.

Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag also find a place in the XI. While Sehwag is at the opners slot with Smith, Tendulkar bats at No. 4 in the side.

Talking about Sehwag, Steyn said: "He was tough to bowl to - he could take you apart in six balls."

Steyn said while Sehwag was very dangerous in India conditions, there was always a chance of getting him out early in seaming conditions.

Steyn said about Tendulkar, "Sachin was amazing. In Test cricket he was like a wall. I remember bowling at him in India and I just felt he had everything covered."

"He kind of knew when I going to bowl an away swinger and could leave it. He kind of knew when I was going to bowl an in-swinger and had to play at it, or if I was going to bowl a short ball and he had to duck. He had me covered. I've never felt so hopeless before! I just felt like I couldn't get him out and had no answer," he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

Smith, the former South African captain, has been named the captain of the side. He also opens batting with Sehwag. Steyn placed Hashim Amla at one-down followed by Sachin Tendulkar.

Jacques Kallis and Andrew Flintoff are the two all-rounders in the side while Kumar Sangakkara has been named the wicket-keeper.

Wasim Akram and Glenn McGrath speahead the pace attack while Shane Warne fatures as the lone spinner,

Here is Steyn's dream Test XI:

Graeme Smith (capt), Virender Sehwag, Hashim Amla, Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), AB de Villiers, Andrew Flintoff, Shane Warne, Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath

12th and 13th men – Allan Donald and Jonty Rhodes
