A number of people have come out with some hilarious jokes and memes regarding the ball-tampering issue that has left the cricketing world reeling. For those who are reading about this news for the first time, Australian captain Steve Smith had asked one of his players, Cameron Bancroft, to tamper with the ball during the third Test between Australia and South Africa at Cape Town.

The result with outcry with cricketers calling for Smith and his deputy David Warner’s ouster, with some even calling for the head of coach Darren Lehman. Smith and Warner are flying back to Australia, as they have been suspended for the fourth and final Test of a controversial series.

But the highlight was a tweet by Air New Zealand, who took a dig at the Australian captain. In its tweet, which comprised an animated ad, Air New Zealand said, “Steve, we know you’ve been a naughty boy, but you can come down here to watch us beat England using (legal) swing bowling.”

Cricket Australia today suspended captain Steve Smith, vice captain David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, a newcomer in the team, for the fourth Test against South Africa in Johannesburg for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal. CA also said that Darren Lehmann will continue as Australia coach.

After investigation, CA found all three players guilty of breaching article 2.3.5 of Cricket Australia’s Code of Conduct and will fly home from South Africa on Thursday, a cricket.com.au report said.  Tim Paine will replace Smith as the captain of the Australian cricket team for the fourth Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.

Bancroft and captain Steve Smith admitted to ball-tampering during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

Bancroft was caught on television cameras appearing to rub a yellow object on the ball, and later said: "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I want to be here (in the press conference) because I want to be accountable for my actions."

Earlier, Smith was banned for one Test by the International Cricket Council for his role in a plot that saw team-mate Cameron Bancroft tamper with the ball by using yellow sticky tape during the third Test against South Africa in Newlands.

Bancroft escaped with a fine of 75% match fee and three demerit points.
