Addressing the fourth edition of the two-day Bengal Global Business summit on Tuesday, Reliance Industries' chairman Mukesh Ambani praised the chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee.

Praising the chief minister, Mukesh Ambani said, "Under, Mamata Banerjee’s leadership West Bengal is becoming Best Bengal”, said Mukesh Ambani.

He thanked the people of West Bengal for showing love and support to Reliance Jio. He said the company has more than 1.2 crore customers in the state.

Ambani said that by the end of this year, Reliance Jio will reach 100 per cent of the state’s population. “Jio will connect every single hospital and educational institution in 2 years,” he said.

The company has invested around Rs 15,000 crore in the state during the last three years and this was only possible due to the friendly business climate established under Mamata’s rule in the state, he further added.

Mukesh Ambani also said that he will make JioPhone available at almost zero cost in West Bengal. Mukesh Ambani also assured of investing over Rs 5,000 crore in non-Jio business over next 3 years.

West Bengal has the highest number of MSMEs in the country with 52,69,814 units, a development which will boost the state during the ongoing Bengal Global Business Summit.

Bengal accounted for 11.62 per cent of micro, small and medium enterprises, the most among the top 10 states of the country, a senior state MSME official told PTI.

The eastern state left behind highly industrial regions like Maharashtra and Gujarat in the race, a data in the 2016-17 MSME ministry annual report showed.

"This is a reflection on what the state is doing toward creating businesses, entrepreneurs and job in the state. Growth of MSMEs offer huge scope for large scale industries," MSME Secretary Rajiva Sinha said.
