The economic wing of RSS, Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) has appealed to the BJP-led NDA government to reconsider its recent proposal of disinvestment of 92 central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) as suggested by NITI Aayog.

SJM at its national council meeting held in Pune on Sunday passed a resolution requesting the government not to go ahead with its plan to disinvest these strategically important CPSES including the subsidiaries of Air India.

SJM wants the government to support these enterprises. SJM said the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) based on NITI Aayog suggestion has proposed to sell some of the companies as 'strategic sale' and in some companies, their assets (mostly immovable assets) are planned to be sold.

At present, there are 8 Maharatna, 16 Navratna, 75 Miniratna CPSEs and 52 loss-making CPSEs.

SJM national co-convener Ashwani Mahajan said,'' SJM has raised its concern. We have suggested not to resort to the strategic sale route for disinvestment but adopt minority disinvestment through the capital market route which ensures national wealth remains within India and control of national resources remain with the government.''

SJM has raised an objection against the proposed disinvestment of Air India's three wholly owned subsidiaries Air India Air Transport Services Ltd (AIATSL), Air India Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) and Alliance Air Services Ltd (AASL). Mahajan said this move will not only result in creating further and deeper problems for Air India but also result in strategic engineering services, material handling services at airports and air services to connect remote parts of the country under UDAAN scheme to jeopardy.

Moreover, SJM has opposed the government's move to sell Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd's subsidiaries Bharat Broadband Nigam Limited and BSNL Tower Corp Ltd saying that it may fetch few crore to the government but make BSNL bleed further.
