The government last week raised import duty on sugar from 40 to 50 per cent to support falling prices in the domestic market.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices went up by Rs 100 each to end the week at Rs 4,200-4,300 and Rs 4,190-4,290 per quintal.

Likewise, mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices hardened by Rs 40 each to finish the week at Rs 3,700-3,860 and Rs 3,690- 3,850 per quintal, respectively.

In the millgate section, sugar Dhampur, Dhanora, Chandpur and Shamli were up by Rs 70 each to Rs 3,800, Rs 3,850, Rs 3,790 and Rs 3,820, while Asmoli, Simbholi, Khatuli and Sakoti spurted by Rs 60 each to Rs 3,860, Rs 3,880, Rs 3,890 and Rs 3,790 per quintal.

Sugar Budhana, Thanabhavan, Dorala and Nazibabad surged by Rs 50 each to Rs 3,820, Rs 3,815, Rs 3,830 and Rs 3,720 per quintal, respectively.

Prices of Kinnoni, Ramala, Anupshaher, Nanota, Baghpat and Morna gained by Rs 35 each to Rs 3,900, Rs 3,720, Rs 3,700, Rs 3,730, Rs 3,735 and Rs 3,730 per quintal, respectively. (MORE)
