Spices decline on easing demand from retailers and stockists

Prices of select spices fell at the wholesale kirana market in the national capital during the week on increased selling by stockists against slowdown in buying activities at prevailing levels and closed with widespread losses.

Prices of select spices fell at the wholesale kirana market in the national capital during the week on increased selling by stockists against slowdown in buying activities at prevailing levels and closed with widespread losses.

Sentiments turned weak largley due to easing demand from bulk consumers in the spot market due to end of wedding session amid sufficient stocks on higher arrivals from the major producing regions.

Black pepper prices declined by Rs 10 to conclude at Rs 420-570 per kg on reduced offtake by exporters.

Cardamom brown -- Jhundiwali and Kanchicut -- traded lower at Rs 620-650 and Rs 700-1,000 as against previous closing of Rs 670-690 and Rs 740-1,040 per kg, respectively.

Cardamom small varieties such as chitridar, colour robin, bold and extra bold drifted by Rs 10 each lower to conclude at Rs 990-1,090, Rs 915-940, Rs 940-965 and Rs 1,040-1,060 per kg, respectively.
 

Chirounji prices traded lower at Rs 750-850 instead of Rs 770-900 per kg.

Cloves (superior quality) eased by Rs 10 to conclude at Rs 530-600 per kg.

Coriander, dry ginger and kalaunji prices declined by Rs 200 each to finish at Rs 6,000-12,300, Rs 12,000-17,000 and Rs 10,600-10,800 per quintal, respectively.

Mace- red (superior quality) fell by Rs 25 to conclude at Rs 900-1,150 per kg.

Red chilli and turmeric prices slipped to end the week lower at Rs 6,000-14,500 and Rs 7,800-10,900 as compared with previous mark of Rs 6,000-15,500 and Rs 8,100-11,000 per quintal, respectively.
 

Jeera-new common and jeera-new best quality also quoted lower at Rs 17,700-17,900 and Rs 19,800-20,500 per quintal, respectively on subdued domestic and exports demand following higher supplies from the producing regions.

On the other hand, poppyseed (China, U.P and MP-RAJ) prices were increased up to Rs 30 to conclude at Rs 580-600, Rs 580-600 and Rs 580-610 per kg, respectively.
