Sensex loses 940 points in five sessions

Sectorally, BSE Realty fell 3.11%, Healthcare 2.55% and Consumer Durables 2.07%. PSU Bank, IT, Oil & Gas and Teck ended in the green

Benchmark indices on Monday fell for the fifth straight session on Monday as investors turned cautious on political stability following the Karnataka state elections and global cues.

Sensex fell 232.17 points, or 0.67%, to end at 34616.13, its weakest close closing since April 25, when it had finished at 34501.60. The gauge has now lost 940.58 points in last five trading sessions. The 50-share Nifty slipping 70.70 points, or 0.75%, to 10516.70.

Sectorally, BSE Realty fell 3.11%, Healthcare 2.55% and Consumer Durables 2.07%. PSU Bank, IT, Oil & Gas and Teck ended in the green.

On Sensex, Sun Pharma was the biggest losing stock followed by Dr Reddy’s, YES Bank, Tata Motors and Tata Steel, which fell as as much as 4.50%. However, SBI, TCS and Coal India were the main gainers, rising as much as 2.47%.
