Sarveswaran takes charge as additional Central PF Commissioner

K V Sarveswaran has taken charge as Additional Central Provident Fund Commissioner (HQ), EPFO, Chennai and Puducherry zone.

He took charge with effect from March 21, an official release here said.
 

Sarveswaran had earlier served in other zones like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha, besides at the Employees Provident Fund Organisation headquarters in Delhi, it said.
 

Meanwhile, pensioners across the country will soon get a good news as the government is reportedly mulling over hiking the minimum monthly payment to Rs 2000 under the Employees Pension Scheme. 

The Labour Ministry has asked the EPFO to calculate the cost as well as the number of beneficiaries if the EPS pension is doubled, according to a report in the Economic Times. 

"EPFO will soon finalise the implications of doubling the minimum pension, following which government will move a proposal to the central board of trustees of EPFO," an offcial close to the development told the newspaper. 

If this decision would be implemented, around 4 lakh pensioners would enjoy the benefit but would cost the Centre an amount of Rs 3,000 crore annually. 

Earlier, retirement fund body EPFO (Employees' Provident Fund Body) has made it mandatory to file online claims for provident fund withdrawals above Rs. 10 lakh, taking another step towards becoming a paperless organisation. EPFO has also made it mandatory to file online claims for withdrawals of above Rs. 5 lakh under the Employees Pension Scheme 1995. Under the pension scheme, there is a provision of part withdrawal of pension, commonly known as commutation of pension money.
