A parliamentary panel on Environment, headed by Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury, will submit its report on the GM crop in this session.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests is also looking into the clearance given by the biotech-regulator GEAC for commercial cultivation of genetically modified (GM) mustard.

The panel will submit is report on GM seeds in the current session of Parliament, a committee member said.

Taking note of concerns raised by various environmental groups and agricultural bodies, Chowdhury had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked the government to "wait till the panel completes its examination and finalises its report on GM products".

The GEAC had approved GM Mustard for commercial cultivation.

Some members in the panel are learnt to be of a strong view that GM Mustard is not good for the country.
