Govt. boosts LEDs aiming power conservation

The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday with leading oil marketing companies to boost LED bulbs in order to conserve electricity.

The EECL has signed MoU with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in the presence of Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Goel and Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan.

Power minister Piyush Goel while addressing the event told ANI, ?The main target of the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to encourage power conservation and encourage the women and children of the nation to consume more power at reasonable cost.?

?I am sure this partnership would make our country the leading one in usage of LED bulbs and a step forward towards power conservation,? he said.

Taking Prime Minister Narendra Modi?s dream of enlightening nation to new heights, Pradhan said that this agreement is aimed to distribute LED bulbs, tubelights and efficient fans in at least 55, 000 outlets across the country.

He further said that the government would be entitled to ten percent commission from the sale of these LED bulbs, the amount which would be used by the Centre for improving infrastructural facilities.

The EESL comes under the eminent leadership of Piyush Goel and the oil marketing companies come under the flagship of UJALA led by Pradhan.

The distribution of these energy efficient appliances will be conducted in a phased manner across selected outlets of the oil companies. In the first phase, distribution will commence from the states of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
