In what came as a good news for Rajdhani and Shatabdi passengers, railways has decided to revise the flexi-fare scheme of premium trains reportedly from September. Citing sources, a report in the Indian Express Railways Ministry is in discussion over steps to provide some “relief” ahead of the 2019 general elections. The report further added that talks are on in the ministry to introduce an experimental one-month suspension of flexi-fare system in some trains during the lean season, around September.

The sources further told the publication that low occupancy in Rajdhani and Shatandi trains had forced the  Railway minitry to take stock of the situation. As per the sources, the 10 per cent discount that customers get on remaining vacant berths after the preparation of the chart, during certain non-peak periods of the year might also be increased.

A senior Rail Bhawan bureaucrat told the newspaper that “some relief” was on the cards and the matter was likely to take final shape by next week.

Meanwhile, in another good news the Railways Ministry has reportedly asked Northern Railways, which manages the maximum number of these trains, to fit a new version of the Centre Buffer Coupler (CBC) to join coaches.

A coupler is a device for connecting coaches with each other in a train.
