The Central Mumbai District's consumer dispute redressal forum held a mobile company and online shopping site, Flipkart, guilty of providing faulty services to its consumers and levied a fine on them.

The forum, in its orders, held that the company demanded repairing charges despite the phone being in its warranty period. The forum asked the company and shopping website to return the phone's total cost of Rs 10,999 along with interest at the rate of nine per cent from 2017. The forum further directed the firm to pay Rs 5,000 towards the complainant's mental agony and another Rs 5,000 towards the complainant's litigation charges.

In March 2017, Vishal Lokhande purchased a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 for Rs 10,999 however it stopped working after a mere 15 days. Xiaomi's service center demanded Rs 7,500 for the phone's repair despite it being under warranty.

Flipkart, in its reply, was of the view that it was just a medium to sell the phone and that it cannot be held guilty. The court, however, rejected the say and levied compensation against the faulty services.
