DGCA suspends licence of 2 Jet Airways pilots

Aviation safety regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday announced that it has suspended the license of two Jet Airways pilots for a period of five years. The duo have been charged with jeopardising the safety of aircraft operation.

The incident happened on January 1 in a Jet Airways flight 9W-119 which was on its way to Mumbai from London with 324 passengers and 14 crew members. As per the allegations, the commander came out of cockpit about one hour before touchdown complaining of being physically harassed by the co-pilot. The co-pilot also came out of cockpit soon after that leaving the cockpit unattended thereby jeopardising the safety of aircraft operations.

"DGCA has investigated the occurrence. Keeping in view serious safety lapses endangering the safety of aircraft operations, DGCA has suspended the privileges of license of both the involved pilots for a period of five years," a senior DGCA official said. Jet airways has already sacked the duo.
