Amid the ongoing tussle between the Aam Aadmi government and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation over the fare hike had not impact on the scheduled increase of prices, that had to take place from Tuesday.

According to the new hike, there is an increase of Rs 10 for all travel beyond 5 km.

The hike came despite the fact the the Delhi assembly on Monday passed a resolution against it.

However, a tweet from Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal implied that the matter is far from over yet.

"Out of 16, the Delhi government has five directors, who opposed but Centre adamant. Hike too steep. Centre should have been more considerate for common man," Kejriwal tweeted.

The Delhi Assembly on Monday stepped up its protest against the Metro fare hike by passing a resolution against the plan, set to be implemented from Tuesday. Continuing its attack on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) since it announced the revised fare, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia called the hike a ploy to help radio cab services.

Speaking in the Assembly, Sisodia said a "conspiracy" was being hatched, so that people give up using the Metro and hail cabs. "This is being done so that Ola and Uber benefit from this. Efforts are being made to turn Metro into a premium transport, which the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will not allow to happen," he said, without naming anybody.

Noisy scenes were also witnessed in the Assembly when two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs — Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Om Prakash Sharma — demanded an apology from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for making derogatory remarks against women during the guest teachers' debate on October 4. Both Sirsa and Sharma were then marshalled out of the House on orders of Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, after they refused to stick to the fare hike debate. Two other BJP MLAs, Vijender Gupta and Jagdish Pradhan, also staged a walkout to express solidarity with their party legislators.
