The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Karti Chidambaram to travel abroad. The apex court allowed son of P. Chidambaram to travel to United Kingdom from September 20 to September 31.

Karti Chidambaram will be travelling to UK for his daughter's admission.

Karti Chidambaram is facing proceedings in cases like Aircel-Maxis, INX media and money laundering matters. The criminal cases are being investigated by the ED and the CBI.

On Monday, Enforcement Directorate informed the Supreme Court that Karti has been "blatantly misusing" the liberty granted to him by the court for travel abroad, using it to protract investigations.

On July 23, the Supreme Court granted relief to Karti Chidambaram in INX Media Case. The apex court has allowed him to travel abroad from July 23 to July 31 to United States, UK and France.

Earlier in June, the CBI moved to the Supreme Court challenging a Delhi High Court order granting bail to Karti Chidambaram, son of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, in the INX Media case.

The CBI has claimed in its appeal that it was "impermissible" for the high court to entertain the bail plea filed by Karti when an application seeking similar relief was pending before the trial court.

The agency has also alleged that the high court had "erroneously" conducted a "detailed examination" of evidence on merits at the stage of bail which seriously prejudiced the case of CBI.

"Further, the high court while granting bail (to Karti) failed to exercise its discretion in a judicious manner without ascertaining the nature of accusation, the nature of supporting evidence and the reasonable apprehension of tampering with the evidence in the present case," the CBI said in its appeal.
