About two years after discontinuing non-vegetarian snacks from economy class flights of duration less than an hour, national carrier Air India has now extended the same to all domestic flights in the economy class.

"Air India has taken a conscious decision to not have non-vegetarian meals in economy class on its domestic flights to reduce wastage, reduce cost and improve catering service."

The airline which is under a turnaround plan for profitability, has been given an in-principle approval by the present government to be privatized. The airline at present is reeling under a debt of over Rs 52,000 crore.

Leading low cost carrier Indigo, the Tata group and several other domestic and international groups have reportedly shown interest in buying off the airline.
