We have heard of the adage one man’s food is another’s poison that describes people’s aversion to certain items. In some cases that gives rise to passionate food feuds. Recently, Hollywood star Chris Pratt was trolled for sharing a photograph of lamb meat on a kitchen counter. He revealed in the caption that he raises lambs on his farm and then kills them to feed himself and his five-year-old son Jack.

His comment upset many of his vegan followers, who accused him of ‘murdering’ the animals. A few even went as far as comparing the slaughter to the Holocaust. While the Guardians of the Galaxy star had to field much hate from vegans, this is not the first time an actor has faced criticism for his meal preferences. Here are a few instances when celebrities faced a lot of backlash when they hinted about their culinary choices...

MEATY STATEMENT THAT IRKED SOME

American singer, actress and fashion designer Jessica Simpson had to face flak from PETA when she sported a tee that read, “Real girls eat meat.” Reacting to it, Alistair Currie, a spokesman for PETA, slammed the singer saying, “Jessica Simpson might have a right to wear what she wants, but she doesn’t have a right to eat what she wants — eating meat is about suffering and death. Some people feel like they are standing up against a tide of political correctness when they make a statement like this — what she is really doing is standing up for the status quo.” The animal rights group also went ahead and doctored a photo of Ms Simpson that read, ‘Only Stupid Girls Eat Meat’, and even listed five reasons for ‘stupid girls’ eating meat.

CHOOSING TO EAT DOG MEAT GOT THIS ACTOR INTO TROUBLE

British actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers came under PETA’s radar for admitting that he had tried dog meat while in China. His confession was met with flak from the animal rights group that went on to state, “Chickens and cows may not be as cute and cuddly as puppies, but when it comes to their ability to feel pain and suffer, they are no different from animals people call pets.”

FOOD FEUDS BACK HOME

Both actors Rishi Kapoor and Kajol too came under the scanner for choosing to consume red meat. While Rishi Kapoor clarified his stance with this statement, “I don’t eat beef in India. I eat beef prepared from cattle bred for food. In the USA, England, Australia and New Zealand they breed cattle specially for meat. Not like us, in this country we do not breed cattle specially for meat-eating. I don’t eat cow meat in India. Beef is not allowed me in my house. Ninety percent of my Hindu friends eat beef or beef products. But I am not killing my gau-maata to eat beef.” He also went on to add, “I am not advocating beef-eating. But I am advocating a freedom to have an opinion and a voice (sic).” Kajol who was picked on for a video of a beef dish that her friend had prepared. The actress later clarified that it was actually buffalo meat. She took to Twitter to state, “A video of me at a friend’s lunch said that there was a beef dish at the table. That’s a miscommunication. What was shown was buffalo meat, that is legally available meat. I’m issuing this clarification because this is a sensitive matter that may hurt religious sentiments, which is not my intention (sic),” Kajol wrote. She also deleted the clip from her Instagram and Facebook accounts after it attracted negative comments.
