“You can’t tell mothers how to bring up their children,” said Rani Mukerji at the round-table.

Rani Mukerji might be a widely loved personality thanks to the charm she carries from the 90s and has still managed to win hearts on screen till date, but the actress definitely has a viewpoint on the ongoing Me Too movement which wasn’t appreciated by most, including actresses Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone.
Anushka, Deepika, Rani, Alia Bhatt, Tabu and Taapsee Pannu were called on a round-table conference meet, where he got the topic which became one of the biggest highlights of 2018, and had to do with women celebrities.
Anushka, Deepika and Alia had supported the movement even previously and they maintained that Me Too movement is a good move, since Karan (Johar) rightly said, now people think twice before acting around women.
But Rani, who made her way to the conference for her role in Hitchki as a teacher who stands tall for her rowdy students, made a point which appeared very bizarre to most people. She said ‘self-defence’ is necessary and so learning martial arts is important and it should become a part of the school schedule.
To that, Deepika made a very valid point saying ‘but why to even bring it to the point where girls should learn self-defence’ and Anushka agreed with Deepika, to which Rani defended saying, “You can’t tell mothers how to bring up their children”, which has been picked up by Twitter and created a rage among the Twitteratis, because what was Rani even thinking!? Here are some of the reactions…
Rani mukherjee=disappointment at 2018 #actressroundtable ..

The women has to know that "she does not want it to happen". Does Rani Mukherjee know what rape is? It is the act of FORCING someone into sexual contact. It is GIVEN that she does NOT want it to happen. THAT'S WHY when it happens it is SEXUAL ASSAULT.

Oh, ok.

So you can't tell people how to bring up their sons to be respectful of women, but perfectly practical to make sure all women, girls, infants are enrolled for karate classes en-masse, pronto.Dafuq Rani? #ranimukherjee and Preity are a blot on the actresses of their time https://t.co/lRAQNLGSYY
Wow rani mukherjee is a massive idiot isnt she

I think Rani Mukherjee should take a cue from her husband and shun appearances with such archaic views. https://t.co/mWQgrJ4ler

Yes. Rani Mukherjee is not wrong. It's like saying we don't need police because, ideally people shouldn't be committing crimes.

Rani Mukherjee: "martial arts"
Rani Mukherjee is that friend in group discussion round of placement who thinks speaking more will get more brownie points. https://t.co/56LkqRX6y2

as for #RaniMukherjee you have a daughter yourself.. at what age are you going to start teaching her martial arts to protect her from predators? You wouldn’t have to because you come from a privileged background and your daughter will be brought up in one too

seeing Rani Mukherjee talk about #MeToo and then comparing it to what Deepika and Anushka said about the cause.. you can clearly see the difference between the two generations

rani mukherjee man. so disappointing. would rather talk about a world where it's required for all female children to be professionally trained in martial arts than even ENTERTAIN the idea that maybe men are raised in rape culture. https://t.co/rBIsDtXtXt

Well, Rani Mukherjee for real said women should learn krav maga because sexual harassment just... happens. #secondhandembarrassment #wow

#RaniMukherjee had an oops moment with her response to #MeToo please
— vignesh iyer (@iamviyer) December 30, 2018
Make it make sense Rani Mukherjee. While upbringing plays a huge role in a child's life IT IS NOT the only factor in how a child behaves. Some people are born mentally, behaviourally sick. https://t.co/MA4W706aVr

2018 bina zillat ke khatam horaha tha, phir Rani Mukherjee se raha nahi gaya

Notice the difference in treatment of a nuanced subject between Rani Mukherjee and the rest of them, especially Deepika Padukone.
— Shatrubhanja (@Shatrubhanja) December 30, 2018
Keep in mind that Rani's career preceded the whole lot of them by 5-10 years. https://t.co/Gsz3JivM2Q
Ugh someone tell Rani Mukherjee to stfu https://t.co/CjyGf1Usp4

First Preity Zinta and now Rani Mukherjee. Journalists, please please do not ask any other 90s actresses about #MeTooIndia. I can’t see them all ruining their image and fall so low. Sigh

Rani Mukherjee talking about martial arts and going "chop chop chop" while Deepika and Alia talk about child molestation is the most cringe. https://t.co/91E4jpHo2Y

Raising my hand to ask a question that many might have on their mind too.

Why was Rani Mukherjee called to this round table? I genuinely feel Katrina Kaif is more relevant in today's context of cinema. Or even a Bhumi Pednekar! WAIT. Why not SONAM KAPOOR! @RajeevMasand ??
Everyone here, especially Deepika Padukone is making important points and then there’s Rani Mukherjee blaming “Boy’s mothers” and telling women to learn martial arts. Does she think that a sexually predatory environment is unchangeable? Wtf? https://t.co/1pxlHGAKWO

There are many ppl who like to hear the sound of their own noise ...I mean voice. Rani Mukherjee is one of them.

Rani Mukherjee is that one person in MBA group discussion round, who thinks that you get more marks if you speak more. https://t.co/TDsb1qW5lv

Rani Mukherjee proved again that Nepo kids are dumb and ignorant
— shruti. (@megh_____) December 30, 2018
How is Rani Mukherjee this tone deaf? The first step to being a victim blamer is telling women that it is their responsibility to protect themselves. No, sis. It is the man's responsibility to not attack/harass. "Let's all learn Krav Maga" is not a solution. https://t.co/qJUgdLUgyr
— Sukhmani Waraich (@s_waraich) December 30, 2018
A random person even commented on her Kuch Kuch Hota hai character saying:
Naseeb Rani Mukherjee cancer se marr gyi Apne aap...wrna saala triple talaq b deta
— ChotaYogi (@iNahiDunga) December 30, 2018
Alia also tried to put across her point for some time over the issue but soon enough kept mum when the other ladies spoke. Meanwhile, Tabu and Taapsee Pannu didn’t even try to take any sides or speak about the topic.
