Kedarnath, the heart-warming love story of a Muslim pithoo and a Hindu tourist, set against the 2013 floods in Uttarakhand, has picked up pace at the box office and has earned Rs 17 crore in just two days. On Sunday, the film’s collections should have grown even more.

Starring Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput, Kedarnath, directed by Abhishek Kapoor has been co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala through his production house RSVP  Movies.

While sharing the box collection of the film, trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “#Kedarnath gathers momentum on Day 2… Growth on Day 2 [vis-à-vis Day 1]: 34.48%… Should witness an upward trend on Day 3 [Sun] as well… Fri 7.25 cr, Sat 9.75 cr. Total: ₹ 17 cr. India biz.”

Kedarnath narrates the story of love between a poor Muslim boy who works as a porter in the holy town of Uttarakhand and a Hindu girl.

They face family disapproval and other troubles due to their religion and background. The floods act as a backdrop to their relationship.

Kedarnath received mixed reviews from critics and audience alike.

DNA film critic Meena Iyer wrote in her 3 star review, “Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath is important on three levels. Foremost, it is the launch vehicle of an extraordinarily-talented star kid, Sara Ali Khan. And the filmmaker does full justice to her. The second aspect of Kedarnath is the love story between two youngsters who belong to opposing castes and religions. Now, this aspect is poorly sketched with absolutely no surprises. Whether it is the boy getting beaten up or the girl’s parents throwing a flaming fit."

"The third aspect of this story is the backdrop of the 2013 Uttarakhand deluge in which 5,000 lives were lost and 70,000 pilgrims, as well as locals, went missing. In all fairness, Abhishek, who is a sensitive director, has stayed true to the story. He has used a lot of VFX to capture the calamity, making the viewer feel fear and despair at a few junctures" she further wrote.

Meena Iyer concluded the review by saying, "Watch Kedarnath for the spunky and spirited Sara Ali Khan. A star is born. "

Meanwhile, according to Taran Adarsh, Kedarnath will pick up more momentum on Sunday. The film faces tough competition from Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth-starrer 2.0, whose Hindi dubbed version is super-strong at the box office.
