Ittefaq has pleased fans of the whodunit genre. The thriller genre got a shot in the arm with the response that the movie has garnered. The movie managed to keep the audiences glued to their seats with its crisp and gritty plot and 100-minute pace. The film starring Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha, and Akshaye Khanna seems to have hit all the right notes with the audiences as well as the critics. Ittefaq is co-produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, BR Studios, and Dharma Productions. Besides the fact that actors’ performances were appreciated, word-of-mouth publicity had worked in the film’s favour. The makers decided to not take the extensive promotions route, which helped maintain the mystery around the content. The movie, which has been produced at a reasonable cost (under Rs 17 crore), had a controlled release across 1,100 screens in India. Gaurav Verma, Chief Revenue Officer – Red Chillies Entertainment, says, “We are happy with the response Ittefaq has received. The word-of-mouth is positive and the collection growth trajectory from Friday to Sunday reflects the same. Murder mysteries are not made frequently in India, Ittefaq has been welcomed by whodunit fans and has done good business. We expect the film to sustain over coming weeks.”

Cash count

The film saw an encouraging response at the domestic box office. It minted Rs 16.05 crore at the cash registers in the opening weekend. The film also passed the Monday test by making Rs 2.25 crores. Hence, the total collection stands at Rs 18.30 crores on the domestic front for four days. Overseas, too, the movie has done well with collections of 1.3 million USD. This is with just three days in Gulf instead of the normal four. Although it’s only two days as Sunday hardly contributes in the Gulf. Despite losing one day’s business in the Gulf, the film has collected in the same range as much bigger films like Rangoon, Half Girlfriend, Mubarakan, Baadshaho and Jagga Jasoos in overseas.
