The ‘disinherited’ senior actress is said to have approached the Bollywood superstar to help her reclaim her home
Since her mother Kamal Thakur’s death in November this year, 57-year-old Sarika has been running from pillar to post to get what is her rightful property. A plush flat in Bhanu Apartments, Juhu, Mumbai — in the same neighbourhood where actors Vivek Oberoi and Govinda live — is apparently the bone of contention between her and a Dr Vikram Thakkar, who her late mother apparently willed the flat to. It is said that the apartment was purchased with Sarika’s earnings and her mother reportedly had a ‘dated’ power of authority with her (right until her death) on the basis of which, she disinherited her daughter and apparently bequeathed all her property including the Juhu apartment to Dr Thakkar. The matter is now sub judice.
Sources from the film industry say that Sarika has been living in a rented apartment in Mumbai for quite some time. Her marriage to Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan fell apart a few years ago and she moved to Mumbai to restart her innings in Bollywood. Her elder daughter, Shruti Haasan, has her own home, while her younger daughter, Akshara, shuttles between Mumbai and Chennai.
Says our source, “As Sarika doesn’t have a home of her own, Akshara lives with her father in Chennai. But she does visit her mother on a regular basis.”
Meanwhile, we have heard that Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has stepped in to help Sarika sort out her problems. Our source adds, “Sarika is a close friend of Aamir’s first cousin Nuzhat (Imran Khan’s mother). When she apparently approached him to help her, he is said to have stepped forward to study the matter and see how things can be resolved in the best way.” We texted Aamir for his version of the story but he hadn’t reverted till the time of going to press.
IN THE MEANWHILE...
SARIKA AND KAMAL NOT OFFICIALLY DIVORCED
One hears that though Sarika and Kamal Haasan split way back in 2004, the couple is not yet officially divorced. It may be recalled that both these actors, who were live-in-partners from the mid-80s, married after the birth of their two daughters, Shruti (1986) and Akshara (1991). The star couple split up almost a decade ago and Kamal then went on to restart his relationship with South Indian actress Gautami. However, we hear that Kamal and Sarika are estranged but not officially divorced.
