In a career spanning nearly five decades, Amitabh Bachchan, the original angry young man of Indian cinema, has worked in over 180 films. From action to comedy and drama, he’s played a variety of roles over the years and his crisp dialogue delivery has  made his film one liners iconic. Here are a few that will be remembered for decades to come.

“Rishte me to hum tumhare baap lagte hain, naam hai Shahenshah.”
— Shahenshah

When asked who he is, Bachchan dressed to the hilt in a black leather jacket with metallic armour-like-sleeves and gloves, delivers this line with style.

“Don ka intezar toh gyaarah mulkon ki police kar rahi hai. Lekin Soniya, ek baat samajhlo Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai”
— Don

In this 1978 film, Bachchan plays the role of a wanted criminal with ease. Even when he’s surrounded by the police, he tells Helen with a cocky sense of confidence that he is impossible to catch.

“Tumhara naam kya hai, Basanti?”
— Sholay

Bachchan is at his wittiest best as he asks Hema Malini, who can’t seem to stop talking, this question.

“Joh mard hota hai usse dard nahi hota.”
— Mard

In this drama film, even as he’s getting tortured at the hands of Amrita Singh, Bachchan coolly recites this dialogue.

“I can talk English, I can walk English, I can laugh English because English is a very funny language...”
— Namak Halaal

In this film, Big B plays a man raised in a village who’s forced to speak in English once he moves to the city.

“Agar apni maa ka doodh piya hai to saamne aa.”
— Laawaris

In this 1981 film, Bachchan shows his fiery side with some great dialogues.

“Yeh tumhare baap ka ghar nahin, police station hai, is liye seedhi tahrah khade raho.”
— Zanjeer

Playing an inspector in this film, Big B sternly tells Pran who’s a gambling den owner to behave himself.

“Aaj mere paas building hai, property hai, bank balance hai, bangla hai, gaadi hai, kya hai tumhare paas?”
—  Deewar

Bachchan gets angry at his estranged brother played by Shashi Kapoor in this now iconic scene.

“Hum jahan khade ho jaate hain, line wahi se shuru hoti hain.”
— Kaalia

As a hardened prisoner in this 1981 film, Bachchan holds his ground against a fellow prisoner before breaking into a fight.

“Pura naam, Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, baap ka naam, Dinanath Chauhan, maa ka naam, Suhasini Chauhan, gaon Mandwa, umar chhattis saal.”
— Agneepath

When Bachchan, who plays a gangster, is called for questioning to a police station, he delivers this line with the confidence and power that only Big B can.
