Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty starrer 'Hera Pheri' (2000) is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated comedies of Bollywood till date. Directed by Priyadarshan, the first one in the franchise was the remake of 1989 Malayalam film 'Ramji Rao Speaking.' A sequel of it was made in 2006 titled 'Phir Hera Pheri', which was directed by Neeraj Vora, who had written the screen play for the first one.

Though it wasn't declared a Box Office dud, the film failed to garner the same love as its prequel. Four years later in 2010, we got to hear that Producer Firoz Nadiadwala is planning the third sequel of the franchise with Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Nana Patekar, who were set to replace the loved trio of Baburao-Raju-Shyam. The film's budget had reportedly drawn a wedge between Akshay and Firoz, which made the latter take the decision of having a fresh team onboard. It was rumoured that Anees Bazmee would be helming the project.

The talks about the third installment continued to build up but nothing was confirmed ever. However, much to the delight of the fans, filmmaker Indra Kumar recently confirmed the next outing of the comedy. “This is going to be a fun project with a stellar star cast @akshaykumar @SunielVShetty @SirPareshRawal Looking forward to #HeraPheri3,” he tweeted on May 23 this year.

A Mumbai Mirror report said that all the three actors - Akshay, Suneil and Paresh have given their dates for the film and that it will be shot between December 2018 and February 2019. It also went on to say that the film will release in the second half of 2019.

Few days later we got to see a selfie of Akshay and Suniel as Khiladi Kumar almost confirmed the news by tweeting: "This is not a throwback but takes me back to so many. As always was lovely catching up with one of my oldest friend and co-star @SunielVShetty today. "

Suniel's reply : "Aye Raaaaajjjuuuu! Always such a pleasure to see you!!! So happy to be smiling together forever! @akshaykumar", further ignited the rumours of their impending reunion with Here Pheri 3.

But, but, but in an exclusive interview with DNA, when asked to comment on the developments of Hera Pheri 3, Paresh Rawal, who famously played the role of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, in both the parts, said, "Patani. Main peedhiyon se padh raha hun par nah mujhe kisine approach kiya hai na abhi tak kuch aaya hai. Par honi chahiye, it's a terrific film. Terrfific franchise. Lekin unhe character mein growth bhi dena chahiye nahi toh phir ushi tareeke ka ghisa pita karne mein kya mazaa. Phir alag kahaani honi chahiye. Dekhiye jaise Lage Raho Munna Bhai keheneko Munna Bhai MBBS ka sequel thi lekin quantum leap tha. Agar kisi mein dum hai, toh aisi sequel banao."

(Don't know. I have been hearing about it since ages but no one has approached me yet. But I believe it should be made, it's a terrific film, a terrific frachise. But they should show some growth in the characters otherwise there is no fun in doing the same, old thing again and again. They should also have an interesting story. For examples, Lage Raho Munna Bhai was technically Munna Bhai MBBS' sequel but they showed a quantum leap. If some one has the guts to make a sequel of Hera Pheri, they should make it like this.)

On being recalled about the luke warm reponse that Phir Here Pheri received, the actor said, "Gadbad ho gayi thi. Bahut over-smart giri ho gayi thi. Baat nahi bani thi. Agar karna ho toh waisa karo, lekar jao Babu Rao ke character ko kahin. Woh character apne aap mein sufficient hai. Aap use kahin bhi baitha sakte hain story mein. Woh cunning bhi hai, gullible bhi hai, vulnerable bhi hai, stupid bhi hai, heroic bhi hai, humane bhi hai - har kisam ke rang hai Babu Rao ke character ke andar. R.K Lakshman ke 'common man' ke tarah hai ye."

(We made a mistake there. Perhaps got a little too over-smart. I know, it didn't work. If they really want to do it then they should take Babu Rao's character somewhere. That character is self-sufficient in himself. He can be fitted anywhere in the plot. He is cunning, gullible, vulnerable, stupid, heroic, humane all at the same time. That character has a lot of colours within itself. It's somewhat like R.K Lakshman's 'common man'.)

Meanwhile, Paresh Rawal will be soon seen essaying Sunil Dutt's role in Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Sanju'. Later, the actor will be seen in 'Uri' where he will be playing the role of National Security advisor Ajit Doval. He will begin working on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biopic by September this year.
