Karan Johar's 'Dhadak', which is an official remake of the Marathi blockbuster 'Sairat', released on July 20. It marks the debut of late Sridevi's eldest daughter, Janhvi Kapoor and also features Shahid Kapoor's half-brother Ishaan Khatter.
The film registered a great start at the box office despite having newcomers in the lead. It raked in Rs 8.71 crore on Friday itself. This is the highest a Bollywood film, lead by fresh faces, has ever made on Day 1. It scored a crore higher than what 'Student Of The Year' had made on Day 1 of its release, pointed out trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
"Dhadak takes a heroic start... Rarely does a film starring absolute newcomers open so well... Day 1 is higher than Student Of The Year [Rs. 8 cr]... Fri Rs. 8.71 cr," he tweeed.
