Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan didn’t prove quite profitable for the theatre owners as the movie bombed at the box office as well as received negative reviews from the critics. As of now, there are pretty high expectations from the Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer upcoming release 2.0. However, there are many reasons to believe as to why 2.0 won’t be able to beat the Day 1 box office collection of Thugs of Hindostan.
To begin with, 2.0 is made on a titanic budget of a whopping sum of Rs 500 crore which is the highest for any Indian movie ever while Thugs of Hindustan was made on a budget of Rs 300 crore. On one hand where Aamir Khan’s movie managed to release on 5000 screens which included Tamil, Hindi and Telugu, on the other hand 2.0 will be released on much broader scale i.e 6600 screens, as per a report on Bollywood Hungama.
2.0 will be more successful in grabbing fans across the country as Rajinikanth has a humongous fan following down South, while Akshay Kumar has a commendable fan following across the country. All the factors are working in favour of the 2.0 and it is quite possible that it will probably break the first day collection of TOH. But there is one major factor which might work against 2.0.
While TOH was released on a festive season which naturally drew people in large numbers to the theatres, 2.0 will hit the screens on a regular working day i.e Thursday. The film has failed to garner a positive response up North as well, taking advance booking into considerations. Trade pundits have predicted the first day collection of 2.0 to be around Rs 25 crore. Well, looks like Thugs of Hindostan is likely to remain the movie with the highest first day opening.
