Hoops get haute like never before and our Bollywood actresses have embraced this accessory with chutzpah and elan.

From Kriti Sanon to Sara Ali Khan, and from Jacqueline Fernandez to Athiya Shetty — a lot of actresses have been seen rocking these earrings as they party hop and run errands. Jacqueline was spotted in a pair which she teamed up with a sporty look and Kriti attended a bash in a nifty pair. Athiya has been a hoops devotee for a very long time now and Sara was seen wearing her sparkly ones with a beaded and sheer net dress. What is it about the allure of the jewellery staple, which makes it a Bollywood essential?

OBSESSED AND HOW

Stylist Shaleena Nathani, who never liked them initially has, of late, warmed up to them. “I am obsessed with them. It’s very on trend and looks beautiful on the Indian skin tone. I just can’t have enough of them,” says she.

'80s NOSTALGIC WAVE

Stylists often associate the hoops craze with ’80s pop culture and for someone who grew up in the decade of excess can’t help but still use them. Stylist Isha Bhansali observes, “Hoops are so ’80s. As kids, we would wear them in red and other pop hues. You need to have a long neck to pull them off which works for someone like Athiya. Alia, on the other hand, has a pretty baby face so she can pull them off too.” Bhansali hails them as “80’s femme fatale”. “It’s not a delicate piece but a statement one. Actresses with a sharp face structure should steer clear of them. I think Athiya pulls them off well.”

Dress them up or down

Hoop earrings have the ability to enhance any look under the sun and they don’t take away from the wearer. Stylist Eshaa Aminn says, “Hoops have always been my all-time favourite and they never take away from you. Besides, they never look chunky or OTT. However, they may look dramatic in a way but they never take away from you. Dress it up or dress it down depending on the occasion.”

Designer Surily Goel seconds that. “Hoops have been around forever and easy to style and also add a little bit of bling to your outfit. I am liking the plastic hoops with stars which have been seen on international runways,” says she.
