South filmmaker Shankar’s 2.0 , which stars Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, has constantly stayed in the news since the time it went on floors in 2015. However, the wait to see our favourite actors in action keeps on getting longer as this magnum opus’ release date has been postponed several times. If the latest trade reports are anything to go by, it seems the sci-fi is all set to lock horns with Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30, as both of them are slated to release on the Republic Day weekend next year.

The makers of the latter, which is based on mathematician Anand Kumar’s life, pushed the film by two months. Earlier, it was scheduled to release in November this year. Says a source, “The 2.0 team had to majorly work on the VFX because they weren’t entirely happy with the first copy. That’s also the reason they haven’t released any promo officially. But they are eyeing the Republic Day weekend next year.” So if that happens, it will be a clash between the two real-life neighbours — Akki and HR – at the BO!

Waiting for 2.0

  • The highly-anticipated 2.0 had a low-key launch on December 7, 2015. Originally, it was supposed to release in Diwali 2017.
  • In April 2017, one of the producers announced that the movie had been deferred to January 25, 2018, as better VFX was yet to be added.
  • Later, the date was pushed to April 14, and then April 27, 2018.
  • In the interim, speculations were rife that the film may open in cinemas in August 2018 or post Diwali 2018.
