Aamir Khan-Shah Rukh Khan: Same-Same!

About a year ago, Dear Zindagi released and was about a professional (Shah Rukh Khan) helping sort a few things for a young girl played by Alia Bhatt. Now, Secret Superstar may have an altogether different plotline but has a similar setting of a professional (Aamir Khan) helping sort a few things for a young girl (Zaira Wasim). The former, of course, had a much established actress while the senior actor had a good amount of screen time as well. On the other hand, the latter has an almost newcomer (with only one film behind her) while the superstar in question primarily appears in the second half.

Hence, the kind of numbers that Secret Superstar has fetched (Rs 9.30 crore) are decent enough since they are pretty much on the same lines as what Dear Zindagi had brought in on its first day (Rs 8.75 crore). Of course, Secret Superstar had released a day before but still it is only on Friday that the film’s true potential can be gauged since audiences are through with the festive celebrations.

What needs to be noted, though, is the fact that Dear Zindagi had released at only around 1,100 screens despite star power, whereas Secret Superstar arrived on 1,750 screens, which means there was potential to earn around 60 per cent higher. Hence, with similar occupancy rate as Dear Zindagi, the Aamir Khan production could well have scored in Rs 14-15 crore range. However, that hasn’t really happened, which means one now waits to see what happens next. The numbers so far are Rs 14.10 crore and they would now need to take a dramatic upward route today in days to come.
