This New Year’s eve, Bangaloreans can take that extra step on the dance floor and pour a few more ounces of joy. Raise a toast to Shankar M Bidari, the city police commissioner, who has extended the party deadline to 1am on January 1, 2010, adding a golden hour to the city nightlife.

Every other day, the city is on sleep mode once midnight hour strikes. In 2009, New Year deadline was pushed to 12.30 midnight. But if you are planning to have a private party that serves liquor at a farmhouse, the police will raid the place, cautions Bidari. You have to secure a licence from the state excise department for serving liquor at resorts and other public places.

Bidari’s order reads: “The deadline extension is applicable to hotels, eateries, restaurants and bars to keep them open up to 1am on January 1, 2010.”

The deadline of 1am on New Year also applies to pubs, clubs and bars attached to restaurants which have got license under the Karnataka Excise Act and serve Indian Made Foreign Liquor including CL-9, CL-4, CL-7 Licencee.

“But they will have to get permission from the state excise department and also deliver a photocopy of the same to the station house officer of the jurisdictional police station before 3pm on December 31,” the order says.

The top cop said he has extended the deadline after requests from managements of various hotels, bars and restaurants in the city.
